Who's Eligible for a Free Library Card? 

To be eligible for a free library card you must be one of the following:

  • a resident of Van Buren Township or Eastern Jefferson Township (including children age six and older)
  • a property owner in Van Buren Township or Eastern Jefferson Township
  • a teacher in Wawasee School Corporation preschool, elementary, middle, or high school
  • a student enrolled in a preschool, elementary, middle or high school in Wawasee School Corporation
  • an business owner in Van Buren Township or Eastern Jefferson Township

 

Can I Get a Library Card if I Don't Live in Van Buren Township or Eastern Jefferson Township? 

People who reside in unserved library districts in Indiana may purchase a non-resident library card for an annual fee. The fee for 2020 is $60.

People who have a library card from their “home” library or who have purchased a non-resident library card may purchase a Public Library Access Card (PLAC). The Public Library Access Card is sponsored by the Indiana State Library and is valid for one year. The fee is set by the Indiana State Library annually.

What Kind of Identification Do I Need to Get a Library Card? 

You will need one form of identification and agree to conform to the regulations of the library. Applicants must present a picture ID with name and current address. If your picture ID does not have your current address, or if your ID does not have an address, you should also bring a piece of mail postmarked within the last 30 days, or a current lease or checkbook with your correct address.

Persons under 18 years of age must have their parent or guardian sign the application acknowledging responsibility.

Where Can I Use My Card? 

Milford Public Library is a part of Evergreen Indiana, a network of over 125 public, school, institutional and special libraries through Indiana. Our library cards can be used at any Evergreen Indiana library including Syracuse Public Library, North Webster Community Public Library, the Indianapolis Public Library, and more. How Long Do I GET to Keep My Items? 

HOW LONG DO I GET TO KEEP MY ITEMS?

You can have a maximum of 100 items and up to ten DVDs checked out simultaneously on your Evergreen Indiana card. Please note that this is the maximum amount of items per card, not per library, if you are planning on checking out items at multiple libraries.​

Books, CDs, audiobooks, cake pans, and Book Buddy Kits can be checked out for 3 weeks 
DVDs and magazines can be checked out for 1 week​

Items may be renewed over the phone, in person, or on the library website. When the library is closed, items may be returned in the book and DVD dropboxes.

Is There a Way to Reduce My Fines? 

Yes, we will work with you regarding your fines. Please talk to a staff member or our director in person or call 574-658-4312. You can also pay your fines online. View more fee information here.

Do Library Cards Expire? 

Library cards expire after three years. Non-resident, PLAC library cards and some special cards expire after one year.
